CSPP Release History

October 31, 2017    (CSPP NOAA VIIRS Active Fire Software Version 1.0)

  • New release of NOAA JPSS Active Fire software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) imager. The NOAA JPSS fire team at the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) provided the software which has been adapted and tested for execution in a real-time direct broadcast environment. This release is an upgrade and replacement to the Active Fire software that is distributed as part of the CSPP EDR suite of products.

October 11, 2017    (CSPP Suomi NPP/JPSS-1 CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 3.0)

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) on S-NPP and JPSS-1 Satellites. The SDR software code base has been updated to ADL Version 5.3.16 (Mx3), also known as Block 2.0, representing significant code base changes that include the use of a database for ancillary and Look-Up-Table management.

April 27, 2017    (CSPP Polar2Grid Reprojection Software Version 2.1)

  • Update to the software that enables users to easily create high quality reprojected Polar Orbiter Satellite imagery, including VIIRS GeoTIFFs, and AWIPS NetCDF files as well as 24 bit True Color and False Color imagery in a selection of projections or grids for entire swaths of data or covering a user defined region. This version includes updates that allow overlays of coastlines, political boundaries and latitude/longitude grids as well as adding color maps to Polar2Grid GeoTIFF output files.

March 3, 2017    (CSPP International ATOVS Processing Package (IAPP) Software Version 1.1)

  • Updated release of the IAPP software that retrieves vertical profiles of temperature, moisture and other parameters from input NOAA-15, 16, 18 and 19 and Metop-A and B HIRS, AMSU-A and MHS Infrared and Microwave Sounders. This update includes improved quality checking and logging, and removes the use of AMSU Channel 15 on Metop-B because of channel failure.

February 8, 2017    (CSPP Advanced Clear-Sky Processor for Oceans (ACSPO) Software Patch Version 1.1.2)

  • Patch required for use of an update to the Canadian Meteorological Center (CMC) gridded SST dynamic ancillary data files. A change to the main ACSPO run script and ancillary fetching logic is required in the form of a patch to the Version 1.1 software.

    June 2, 2016    (CSPP Suomi NPP CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 2.2 Patch)

  • This patch is required to install on top of CSPP Version 2.2 to correct software bugs that include ATMS orbit number calculation and to allow users to correctly set the external ancillary data environment variable JPSS_REMOTE_ANC_DIR for CrIS SDR.

April 7, 2016    (CSPP CLAVRx VIIRS, MODIS and AVHRR Cloud Retrieval Software Version 2.0)

  • Updated release of the NOAA Clouds from AVHRR Extended (CLAVR-x) Retrieval Software Package in support of Suomi-NPP VIIRS, Aqua and Terra MODIS and NOAA-18, NOAA-19, MetOP-A and MetOP-B AVHRR imagers. CLAVRx retrieval software produces a suite of cloud products at single field-of-view resolution. This update includes a new VIIRS nighttime cloud retrieval algorithm that utilizes the Day/Night band lunar reflectances.

April 1, 2016    (CSPP Suomi NPP CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 2.2)

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software for the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instruments that includes an update to the ADL 4.2.11 (IDPS Mx8.11) code base.

February 24, 2016    (CSPP Advanced Clear-Sky Processor for Oceans (ACSPO) Software Version 1.1)

  • Updated release of the of the NOAA/NESDIS/STAR ACSPO software that retrieves sea surface temperatures from input S-NPP VIIRS, NOAA-15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 and Metop-A and B AVHRR, and Aqua and Terra MODIS imagers. This version (ACSPO 2.40) includes significant upgrades to the sensor-specific error statistics (SSES) algorithm.

February 22, 2016    (CSPP Suomi NPP HYDRA2 Multispectral Data Analysis Toolkit Version 2.0)

  • New release of the HYDRA2 visualization and analysis toolkit for interrogating JPSS S-NPP, NASA EOS Aqua and Terra instrument data. This toolkit was developed to assist research and development of remote sensing applications as well as education and training of remote sensing scientists. Among other updates, the satellites supported now include NOAA, Metop and FY-3.

December 14, 2015    (CSPP NUCAPS CrIS/ATMS EDR Retrieval Software Version 1.1)

  • Updated release of the of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) NUCAPS EDR software providing retrievals of atmospheric temperature, moisture and trace gasses as well as cloud-cleared radiances from input Suomi-NPP CrIS and ATMS SDR data files. This version provides support for the 7 Field-Of-View direct broadcast CrIS files that began downlink on 18 August 2015.

October 12, 2015    (CSPP Polar2Grid Reprojection Software Version 2.0)

  • Update to the software that enables users to create reprojected VIIRS SDR GeoTIFF, and AWIPS NetCDF files as well as 24 bit True Color and False Color imagery in a selection of projections or grids for entire swaths of data or covering a user defined region. This version includes updates that allow the creation of VIIRS, MODIS and AVHRR KMZ, Binary and HDF5 output data formats as well.

October 9, 2015    (CSPP Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) Software Version 2.0)

  • Update to the CSPP release of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) software in support of the ATMS instrument onboard S-NPP, and the AMSU-A and MHS instruments onboard NOAA-18, NOAA-19, Metop-A and Metop-B satellites. This update includes the base NOAA software upgraded to version 11.1, and the creation of NOAA-18, -19, Metop-A and-B products at the resolution of the MHS instrument.

September 29, 2015    (CSPP Suomi NPP CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 2.1.1 Patch)

  • This update is required for users to continue to process CrIS data after the transition to extended spectral resolution data. This update is distributed as a patch rather than a full software release.

July 16, 2015    (CSPP Sounder Quicklook Software Version 1.0)

  • First release of a software package that can create navigated pressure level plots of temperature and moisture as well as Skew-T Thermodynamic diagrams of atmospheric Level 2 retrievals from the following software packages:

    • CSPP-NOAA Unique CrIS/ATMS Processing System (CSPP-NUCAPS),
    • CSPP Hyperspectral Sounder Retrieval (Dual Regression) (HSRTV),
    • CSPP-Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (CSPP-MIRS), and
    • CSPP-International ATOVS Processing Package (CSPP-IAPP).

  • First release of the of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) NUCAPS EDR software providing retrievals of atmospheric temperature, moisture and trace gasses as well as cloud-cleared radiances from input Suomi-NPP CrIS and ATMS SDR data files.

February 2, 2015    (CSPP Suomi NPP CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 2.1)

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software for the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instruments that includes an update to the ADL 4.2.6 (IDPS Mx8.6) code base.

October 20, 2014    (CSPP Suomi NPP Patch for SDR Version 2.0)

  • CSPP SDR Patch for CSPP V2.0 SDR software which allows processing of CrIS and VIIRS SDRs after the JPSS downlink of CrIS Full Spectral Resolution (FSR) begins. The increased direct broadcast data volume required to include CrIS FSR, results in VIIRS M-Band 7 and CrIS Field of View (FOV) 4 being excluded from the downlink. The Patch, labeled CSPP SDR V2.0.1, is required in order to process VIIRS SDRs and CrIS SDRs once this direct broadcast switch has been made.

September 3, 2014    (CSPP VIIRS SDR GeoTIFF and AWIPS Reprojection Software Version 1.2)

  • Update to the software that creates reprojected GeoTIFFS and/or AWIPS NetCDF-3 files from Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Sensor Data Record (SDR) HDF5 files. This update includes a simplified one step VIIRS corrected reflectance to true color imagery implementation.

August 4, 2014    (CSPP Suomi NPP CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 2.0)

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software for the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instruments that includes an update to the IDPS Mx8.4 code base, a new dynamic ancillary data and Look-Up-Table distribution site, and the addition of Terrain Corrected arrays within the VIIRS Day/Night Band geolocation files (GDNBO*.h5). This software is designed to work with the CSPP VIIRS EDR version 2.0 release.

August 4, 2014    (CSPP Suomi NPP VIIRS EDR Software Version 2.0)

  • Update to the VIIRS Environmental Data Record (EDR) software suite that includes an update to the IDPS Mx8.4 code base, and new products including the Land Surface Temperature. This software is designed to work with the CSPP VIIRS SDR V2.0 release.

August 4, 2014    (CSPP Suomi NPP Imagery EDR Software Version 2.0)

  • Update to the software package that supports the creation of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument Imagery Environmental Data Record (EDR) HDF5 products in Ground Track Mercator (GTM) Projection that includes an upgrade to the IDPS Mx8.4 code base. This software is designed to work with the CSPP VIIRS SDR V2.0 release.

May 16, 2014    (CSPP CLAVRx VIIRS, MODIS and AVHRR Cloud Retrieval Software Version 1.0)

  • First release of the NOAA Clouds from AVHRR Extended (CLAVR-x) Retrieval Software Package in support of Suomi-NPP VIIRS, Aqua and Terra MODIS and NOAA-18, NOAA-19, MetOP-A and MetOP-B AVHRR imagers. CLAVRx retrieval software produces a suite of cloud products at single field-of-view resolution; it is NOAA's operational cloud processing system for the AVHRR, and it's cloud algorithms are scheduled to migrate to the operational processing system for NOAA JPSS.

April 29, 2014    (CSPP CrIS, AIRS and IASI Dual Regression Retrieval Software Version 1.3)

  • New version of the multi-instrument hyperspectral retrieval software package that uses Suomi-NPP CrIS, Aqua AIRS or MetOP IASI radiances as inputs and produces vertical profiles of temperature, moisture, ozone as well as cloud and surface properties at single field-of-view resolution. This software package update includes improvements in distinguishing clear sky from low cloud.

March 21, 2014    (CSPP Suomi NPP Imagery EDR Software Version 1.1)

  • Software package that supports the creation of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument Imagery Environmental Data Record (EDR) HDF5 products in Ground Track Mercator (GTM) Projection.

March 20, 2014    (CSPP Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) Software Version 1.0)

  • First CSPP release of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) software in support of the ATMS instrument onboard S-NPP, and the AMSU-A and MHS instruments onboard NOAA-18, NOAA-19, MetOP-A and MetOP-B satellites.

March 19, 2014    (CSPP Suomi NPP HYDRA2 Multispectral Data Analysis Toolkit Version 1.0)

  • Updated algorithm Look-Up-Tables (LUTs), and improved Land/Sea boundary designation are included in this release of software that supports creation of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument Environmental Data Record (EDR) Cloud Mask, Active Fires, Aerosol Optical Thickness, Sea Surface Temperatures, Surface Reflectance and Vegetation Indices. Also included in this release is the ability to process data using multiple cores. This software is designed to work with the CSPP VIIRS SDR V1.5 algorithms.

December 18, 2013    (CSPP Suomi NPP CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 1.5)

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software for the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instruments that includes the option to process all three instruments on multiple processor cores, and is compatible with the CSPP VIIRS EDR version 1.2 release. This version also includes the use of LUTs to correct for VIIRS Day/Night Band stray light contamination.

December 18, 2013    (CSPP Suomi NPP VIIRS EDR Software Version 1.2)

  • Software package that supports creation of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument Environmental Data Record (EDR) Cloud Mask, Active Fires, Aerosol Optical Thickness, Sea Surface Temperatures, Surface Reflectance and Vegetation Indices. Also included in this release is the ability to process data using multiple cores. This software is designed to work with the CSPP VIIRS SDR V1.5 algorithms.

October 18, 2013    (CSPP VIIRS SDR GeoTIFF and AWIPS Reprojection Software Version 1.1)

  • Update to the software that creates reprojected GeoTIFFS and/or AWIPS NetCDF-3 files from Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Sensor Data Record (SDR) HDF5 files. AWIPS stands for the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System, the visualization and analysis tool used by the US National Weather Service. This update includes the capability to create True Color 24 bit GeoTIFF files, as well as allowing users to specify their own local grids.

September 24, 2013    (CSPP CrIS, AIRS and IASI Dual Regression Retrieval Software Version 1.2)

  • New version of the multi-instrument hyperspectral retrieval software package that uses Suomi NPP CrIS, Aqua AIRS or MetOP IASI radiances as inputs and produces vertical profiles of temperature, moisture, ozone as well as cloud and surface properties at single field-of-view resolution. This update includes new instrument coefficient files, as well as a bug fix for surface emissivity over the oceans.

February 22, 2013    (CSPP VIIRS SDR GeoTIFF and AWIPS Reprojection Software Version 1.0)

  • First release of software to create reprojected GeoTIFFS and/or AWIPS NetCDF-3 files from Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Sensor Data Record (SDR) HDF5 files. AWIPS stands for the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System, the visualization and analysis tool used by the US National Weather Service.

February 8, 2013    (CSPP Suomi NPP CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 1.3)

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software for the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instruments that uses Algorithm Development Library 4.1, and is compatible with the first CSPP VIIRS EDR release. This release replaces existing installations of CSPP SDR (it is not an update).

November 26, 2012    (CSPP CrIS, AIRS and IASI Dual Regression Retrieval Software Version 1.0)

  • First release of a core software package that uses input Suomi NPP CrIS, Aqua AIRS or MetOP IASI radiances and retrieves vertical profiles of temperature, moisture, ozone as well as cloud and surface properties at single field-of-view resolution. The dual regression technique was developed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

October 4, 2012    (CSPP Suomi NPP CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 1.2)

  • Update to the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software for the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instruments. This release includes many updates to the software, including using Algorithm Development Library 4.0, updates to the science algorithms, as well as additional options to aggregate and compress SDR granules. This release replaces existing installations of CSPP SDR (it is not an update).

May 4, 2012    (CSPP CrIS UW Retrieval Software Version 1.0)

  • First release of CrIS Environmental Data Records software created at the University of Wisconsin-Madison that retrieves atmospheric temperature and moisture profiles as well as surface and cloud properties using a dual-regression technique. The inputs are CrIS Sensor Data Records (SDRs) and GDAS or GFS forecast files, which are automatically identified and retrieved.

May 2, 2012    (CSPP Suomi NPP CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 1.1)

  • First public release of software for transforming direct broadcast Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instrument Raw Data Records (RDRs) to calibrated and geolocated Sensor Data Records (SDRs). Also included in this release are updates to the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) and Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) RDR to SDR software packages. Documentation, calling scripts and test data are included in the distribution.
