  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS), and Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) Nadir Profiler and Nadir Mapper on NOAA-21, NOAA-20 and S-NPP Satellites. The Algorithm Data Library (ADL) code base is updated to Block 2.3 Mx10 (ADL 5.3_I2.3.10.00).

August 26, 2024    (CSPP Polar2Grid Reprojection Software Version 3.1)

  • Update to the Polar Orbiter Satellite reprojection software tool Polar2Grid. This version supports additional CSPP VIIRS Environmental Data Records, including Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD), Cloud Products and Surface Reflectances and Vegetation Index products (NDVI, EVI).

  • The CSPP Team has taken over responsibility for maintaining and updating the Real-time Software Telemetry Processing System (RT-STPS) Software. RT-STPS ingests raw telemetry data from a variety of sensors and outputs data into formats such as Level 0 or Raw Data Records (RDR), depending on the instrument.

March 1, 2024    (CSPP Sounder Quicklook Software Version 1.3)

  • Updated release of the CSPP software package that creates navigated pressure level plots of temperature and moisture as well as Skew-T Thermodynamic diagrams of atmospheric EDR and Level 2 retrievals from the following CSPP software:

    • CSPP-Hyper-Spectral Enterprise Algorithm Package (HEAP) NOAA Unique CrIS/ATMS Processing System (NUCAPS) (CSPP-HEAP NUCAPS),
    • CSPP Hyperspectral Sounder Retrieval (Dual Regression) (HSRTV),
    • CSPP-Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (CSPP-MiRS), and

  • New release of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) Microwave integrated Retrieval System (MiRS) Version 4.0 software in support of the ATMS instrument onboard NOAA-21, NOAA-20 and S-NPP and the AMSU-A and MHS instruments onboard NOAA-19, Metop-B and Metop-C satellites. The code base has been updated to NOAA version 11.9.

October 5, 2023    (CSPP NOAA VIIRS Active Fire Software Version 2.1)

  • New release of NOAA JPSS Active Fire software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) imager. The NOAA JPSS fire team at the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) provided the software which has been adapted and tested for execution in a real-time direct broadcast environment. This version includes support for the NOAA-21 VIIRS sensor.

May 8, 2023    (CSPP GCOM-W AMSR2 GAASP Level 2 Software Version 1.0.2)

  • Patch for the CSPP NOAA GAASP Microwave Level 2 software package in support of GCOM-W1 AMSR-2 direct broadcast. The patch is a bug fix to a python fetching routine for the Interactive Multisensor Snow and Ice Mapping System (IMS) file required to create the Precipitation component products. If the patch is not applied, the GAASP Precipitation component will fail.

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS), and Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) Nadir Profiler and Nadir Mapper on S-NPP, NOAA-20 and NOAA-21 Satellites.

February 21, 2023    (CSPP Polar2Grid Reprojection Software Version 3.0)

  • Major update to the Polar Orbiter Satellite reprojection software tool Polar2Grid. The code base has been updated to align with the Pytroll Satpy library and a new execution format is used. Xarray and Dask libraries are implemented in the software, resulting in improved performance. Extensive documentation examples are included.

June 7, 2022    (CSPP NOAA VIIRS Active Fire Software Version 2.0)

  • New release of NOAA JPSS Active Fire software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) imager. The NOAA JPSS fire team at the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) provided the software which has been adapted and tested for execution in a real-time direct broadcast environment. This version includes an updated VIIRS I-Band algorithm, and the inclusion of a Persistent Anomaly retrieval array in the NetCDF and .txt output files.

March 7, 2022    (CSPP Microwave integrated Retrieval System (MiRS) Software Version 3.0)

  • New release of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) Microwave integrated Retrieval System (MiRS) Version 3.0 software in support of the ATMS instrument onboard S-NPP and NOAA-20, and the AMSU-A and MHS instruments onboard NOAA-18, NOAA-19, Metop-A, Metop-B and Metop-C satellites. The code base has been updated to NOAA version 11.8, which includes updates to the Snow Fall Rate (SFR) retrieval algorithm.

February 14, 2022    (CSPP VIIRS Aerosol, Snow, Cloud, Ice (ASCI) and Land EDR Software Version 1.2)

  • New release of NOAA-20 and Suomi-NPP VIIRS software that supports the creation of JPSS VIIRS Enterprise Environmental Data Record (EDR) products (CSPP_ASCI), including Aerosol, Cloud, Volcanic Ash, Cryosphere and Land Product retrievals. The updated algorithm supports the creation of a new cloud product, Cloud Cover/Layers and includes improvements in Sensor Data Record (SDR) input ingest.

February 14, 2022    (CSPP VIIRS Surface Reflectance and Vegetation Index Software Version 1.1)

  • Updated release of NOAA-20 and Suomi-NPP VIIRS software that supports the creation of JPSS VIIRS Enterprise algorithm Surface Reflectance Environmental Data Record (EDR) products. The surface reflectance algorithm has not been updated, but the package is updated to support ingest of new CSPP VIIRS ASCI GFS interpolated fields.

January 11, 2022    (CSPP HEAP NUCAPS Sounder Retrieval Software Version 2.0)

  • New release of the CSPP NOAA Hyper-Spectral Enterprise Algorithm Package (HEAP) NUCAPS EDR sounder retrieval software, supporting S-NPP and NOAA-20 CrIS/ATMS, and Metop-A,-B and -C IASI/AMSUA/MHS instruments. The sounder retrievals include atmospheric temperature, moisture and trace gasses as well as cloud-cleared radiances. This version consists of an updated code base to NOAA HEAP Version 3.1.

December 2, 2021    (CSPP Suomi NPP/NOAA-20 CrIS SDR Software Patch Version 3.3.1)

  • A patch that fixes a bug in the generation of the NOAA-20 and S-NPP CrIS Correction Matrix Operator (CMO) that caused longer than normal processing times. The patch can be installed as part of a new SDR installation or applied to an existing CSPP Version 3.3 installation.

October 28, 2021    (CSPP Advanced Clear-Sky Processor for Oceans (ACSPO) Software Version 2.0)

  • New release of the of the NOAA/NESDIS/STAR ACSPO software that retrieves sea surface temperatures from input VIIRS, NOAA and Metop AVHRR, and MODIS imagers. The algorithm is updated to NOAA 2.80 for all instruments. This version adds support for Metop-C AVHRR, and removes support for NOAA-15,16,17,18,19 AVHRR. This is the first software deployment using a Singularity container.

September 23, 2021    (CSPP Suomi NPP/NOAA-20 CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Version 3.3)

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) on S-NPP and NOAA-20 Satellites. The SDR software code base has been updated to NOAA Version Block 2.3 Mx1 (ADL 5.3_I2.3.01.00).

September 1, 2021    (CSPP VIIRS Surface Reflectance and Vegetation Index Software Version 1.0)

  • New release of NOAA-20 and Suomi-NPP VIIRS software that supports the creation of JPSS VIIRS Enterprise Algorithm Surface Reflectance products. In addition, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Environmental Vegetation Index (EVI) are created from the Surface Reflectances for each pixel in the input swath at 375m resolution. The inputs for this product are VIIRS Sensor Data Records (SDRs) and the CSPP VIIRS ASCI Cloud Mask, Cloud Height, Aerosol and Gridded NWP EDRs.

May 3, 2021    (CSPP Suomi NPP/NOAA-20 CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Patch Version 3.2.2)

  • Patch for the CSPP SDR Version 3.2.1 software that creates Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) calibrated and geolocated SDRs from input NOAA-20 and Suomi-NPP RDRs. The patch is specifically created for users who have previously applied the CSPP SDR Version 3.2.1 Patch on CentOS-6 Operating Systems. The Version 3.2.1 patch on CentOS-6 caused the VIIRS SDR to fail. The Version 3.2.2 patch can be applied either to an existing 3.2.x installation or as part of a new Version 3.2 deployment.

March 17, 2021    (CSPP Suomi NPP/NOAA-20 CrIS, VIIRS and ATMS SDR Software Patch Version 3.2.1)

  • Patch for the CSPP SDR Version 3.2 software that creates Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) calibrated and geolocated SDRs from input NOAA-20 and Suomi-NPP RDRs. The patch includes two updates; improved handling of corrupt sections of RDR science data, and better filtering of input RDR ATMS and CrIS spacecraft diary data leading to improved geolocations.

March 17, 2021    (CSPP NOAA VIIRS Active Fire Software Version 1.1.1)

  • Updated release of NOAA JPSS Active Fire software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) imager. The NOAA JPSS fire team at the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) provided the software which has been adapted and tested for execution in a real-time direct broadcast environment. This minor update includes improved handling of candidate fire pixels. It will not try to perform a retrieval if all required input bands are not available. This release is intended to go along with the release of CSPP SDR Patch Version 3.2.1, and used together they eliminate occurrences of false fire detections resulting from corrupt input data.

March 12, 2021    (CSPP VIIRS Aerosol, Snow, Cloud, Ice (ASCI) and Land EDR Software Version 1.1)

  • New release of NOAA-20 and Suomi-NPP VIIRS software that supports the creation of JPSS VIIRS Enterprise Environmental Data Record (EDR) products (CSPP_ASCI), including Aerosol, Cloud, Volcanic Ash, Cryosphere and Land Product retrievals. This new version supports the creation of Land Surface Temperature, Land Surface Emissivity and Land Surface Albedo products.

February 05, 2021    (CSPP GCOM-W AMSR2 GAASP Software Version 1.0.1)

  • Patch for the CSPP NOAA GAASP Microwave EDR software package in support of GCOM-W1 AMSR-2 direct broadcast. The patch supports the GFS Numerical Weather Prediction model Version 16 update, which is used as input to the Ocean Module. GAASP supports Ocean, Precipitation, Soil, Snow and Sea Ice products.

November 18, 2020    (CSPP HEAP NUCAPS Sounder Retrieval Software Version 1.0.2)

  • Minor update of the CSPP NOAA Hyper-Spectral Enterprise Algorithm Package (HEAP) NUCAPS EDR sounder retrieval software, supporting S-NPP and NOAA-20 CrIS/ATMS, and Metop-A,-B and -C IASI/AMSUA/MHS instruments. The sounder retrievals include atmospheric temperature, moisture and trace gasses as well as cloud-cleared radiances. This version includes optimized recompiled binaries and support for SO2 retrievals from CrIS/ATMS instruments.

October 14, 2020    (CSPP Microwave integrated Retrieval System (MiRS) Software Version 2.4)

  • New release of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) Microwave integrated Retrieval System (MiRS) Version 2.4 software in support of the ATMS instrument onboard S-NPP and NOAA-20, and the AMSU-A and MHS instruments onboard NOAA-18, NOAA-19, Metop-A, Metop-B and Metop-C satellites. The code base has been updated to NOAA version 11.6, which includes support for the Metop-C platform.

August 6, 2020    (CSPP HEAP NUCAPS Sounder Retrieval Software Version 1.0)

  • Update and replacement release for previous versions of the CSPP NUCAPS and NUCAPS-IASI EDR sounder retrieval software. This is the first release of the NOAA Hyper-Spectral Enterprise Algorithm Package (HEAP) which runs NUCAPS and supports the S-NPP and NOAA-20 CrIS/ATMS, and Metop-A,-B and -C IASI/AMSUA/MHS instruments. The sounder retrievals include atmospheric temperature, moisture and trace gasses as well as cloud-cleared radiances.

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) on S-NPP and NOAA-20 Satellites. The SDR software code base has been updated to the current NOAA operational version, Block 2.1 Mx8 (ADL 5.3_I2.1.08.00).

January 13, 2020    (CSPP Polar2Grid Reprojection Software Version 2.3)

  • Update to the Polar Orbiter Satellite reprojection software tool Polar2Grid. This version adds support for FY-3 VIRR and MERSI2 instruments, CSPP VIIRS Active Fire EDRs, and includes a new "overlay.sh" utility script, that allows users to overlay one GeoTIFF image on top of another.

November 18, 2019    (CSPP NOAA-20/S-NPP ATMS SDR Software Version 3.1.3 Patch)

  • Patch for CSPP NOAA-20 and S-NPP SDR ATMS Version 3.1.2 as a result of an operational ATMS algorithm change and Look-Up-Table (LUT) changes that occurred on 15 October 2019. This patch does not affect VIIRS or CrIS instrument processing.

September 26, 2019    (CSPP Advanced Clear-Sky Processor for Oceans (ACSPO) Software Version 1.2)

  • Updated release of the of the NOAA/NESDIS/STAR ACSPO software that retrieves sea surface temperatures from input VIIRS, NOAA and Metop AVHRR, and MODIS imagers. This version adds support for the NOAA-20 VIIRS Instrument.

September 16, 2019    (CSPP CLAVRx VIIRS, MODIS and AVHRR Cloud Retrieval Software Version 3.0)

  • Updated release of the NOAA Clouds from AVHRR Extended (CLAVR-x) Retrieval Software Package in support of VIIRS, MODIS and AVHRR imagers. CLAVRx retrieval software produces a suite of cloud products at single field-of-view resolution. This update includes support for two new instruments - NOAA-20 VIIRS and Metop-C AVHRR. Users can now customize their CLAVRx output products easily by editing a simple text file.

The code base has been updated to NOAA operational version 11.4, which includes a "probability of falling snow (%)" ATMS instrument product.

  • Updated release of the of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) NOAA Unique Combined Atmospheric Processing System (NUCAPS) EDR software providing retrievals of atmospheric temperature, moisture and trace gasses as well as cloud-cleared radiances from input NOAA-20 and S-NPP CrIS and ATMS SDR data files. This version includes the capability to use the GFS .5 degree resolution files as input, matching what NOAA Operations started using in January, 2019.

  • New release of NOAA JPSS Active Fire software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) imager. The NOAA JPSS fire team at the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) provided the software which has been adapted and tested for execution in a real-time direct broadcast environment. This version includes support for VIIRS I-Band and M-Band resolution retrievals for both S-NPP and NOAA-20 VIIRS.

February 8, 2019    (CSPP Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) Software Version 2.2.1)

  • Patched version of CSPP NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) Version 2.2 software in support of the ATMS instrument onboard S-NPP and NOAA-20, and the AMSU-A and MHS instruments onboard NOAA-18, NOAA-19, Metop-A and Metop-B satellites. The patch provides a fix for a bug causing malformed file names for Metop-A/B and NOAA-19 (incorrect day of month) and a bug that affected the snowfall rate (SFR) retrieval for AMSUA/MHS instruments onboard NOAA-18, NOAA-19, Metop-A and Metop-B.

  • New release of the VIIRS I-Band resolution (375 m) flood detection software. This version includes support for NOAA-20 VIIRS, as well as improved discrimination of mixed phase surfaces, and cloud/snow_cover/water_surface classifications.

  • Update to the CSPP release of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) software in support of the ATMS instrument onboard S-NPP and NOAA-20, and the AMSU-A and MHS instruments onboard NOAA-18, NOAA-19, Metop-A and Metop-B satellites. This update includes support for parallel processing and corrects a bug that affected Metop-A and Metop-B AMSU-A/MHS footprint matching.

The software produces retrievals of atmospheric temperature, moisture and trace gasses as well as cloud-cleared radiances from input Direct Broadcast IASI, AMSU-A and MHS instrument observations.

June 22, 2018    (CSPP CrIS, AIRS and IASI HSRTV Regression Retrieval Software Version 2.0)

  • New version of the multi-instrument hyperspectral retrieval software package that uses CrIS, Aqua AIRS or Metop IASI radiances as inputs and produces vertical profiles of temperature, moisture, ozone as well as cloud and surface properties at single field-of-view resolution. This software package update includes support for NOAA-20 CrIS as well as Normal Spectral Resolution (NSR) and Full Spectral Resolution (FSR) CrIS retrievals.

This is a patched version of the CSPP MIRS version 2.0 software created to accommodate a new bias correction for ADL Block 2.0 (CSPP SDR Version 3.0) S-NPP ATMS Sensor Data Records (SDRs).

  • Update to the Polar Orbiter Satellite reprojection software tool Polar2Grid. This version adds support for NOAA20 VIIRS SDRs, a new AWIPS NetCDF "scmi" writer, CSPP ACSPO Sea Surface Temperatures and CSPP CLAVRx Cloud Products.

  • New release of NOAA JPSS Active Fire software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) imager. The NOAA JPSS fire team at the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) provided the software which has been adapted and tested for execution in a real-time direct broadcast environment. This release is an upgrade and replacement to the Active Fire software that is distributed as part of the CSPP EDR suite of products.

  • New version of the calibration and geolocation Sensor Data Record (SDR) software supporting the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) on S-NPP and JPSS-1 Satellites. The SDR software code base has been updated to ADL Version 5.3.16 (Mx3), also known as Block 2.0, representing significant code base changes that include the use of a database for ancillary and Look-Up-Table management.

  • Update to the software that enables users to easily create high quality reprojected Polar Orbiter Satellite imagery, including VIIRS GeoTIFFs, and AWIPS NetCDF files as well as 24 bit True Color and False Color imagery in a selection of projections or grids for entire swaths of data or covering a user defined region. This version includes updates that allow overlays of coastlines, political boundaries and latitude/longitude grids as well as adding color maps to Polar2Grid GeoTIFF output files.

March 3, 2017    (CSPP International ATOVS Processing Package (IAPP) Software Version 1.1)

  • Updated release of the IAPP software that retrieves vertical profiles of temperature, moisture and other parameters from input NOAA-15, 16, 18 and 19 and Metop-A and B HIRS, AMSU-A and MHS Infrared and Microwave Sounders. This update includes improved quality checking and logging, and removes the use of AMSU Channel 15 on Metop-B because of channel failure.

February 8, 2017    (CSPP Advanced Clear-Sky Processor for Oceans (ACSPO) Software Patch Version 1.1.2)

  • Patch required for use of an update to the Canadian Meteorological Center (CMC) gridded SST dynamic ancillary data files. A change to the main ACSPO run script and ancillary fetching logic is required in the form of a patch to the Version 1.1 software.

  • Updated release of the NOAA Clouds from AVHRR Extended (CLAVR-x) Retrieval Software Package in support of Suomi-NPP VIIRS, Aqua and Terra MODIS and NOAA-18, NOAA-19, MetOP-A and MetOP-B AVHRR imagers. CLAVRx retrieval software produces a suite of cloud products at single field-of-view resolution. This update includes a new VIIRS nighttime cloud retrieval algorithm that utilizes the Day/Night band lunar reflectances.

  • Updated release of the of the NOAA/NESDIS/STAR ACSPO software that retrieves sea surface temperatures from input S-NPP VIIRS, NOAA-15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 and Metop-A and B AVHRR, and Aqua and Terra MODIS imagers. This version (ACSPO 2.40) includes significant upgrades to the sensor-specific error statistics (SSES) algorithm.

  • New release of the HYDRA2 visualization and analysis toolkit for interrogating JPSS S-NPP, NASA EOS Aqua and Terra instrument data. This toolkit was developed to assist research and development of remote sensing applications as well as education and training of remote sensing scientists. Among other updates, the satellites supported now include NOAA, Metop and FY-3.

This version provides support for the 7 Field-Of-View direct broadcast CrIS files that began downlink on 18 August 2015.

  • Update to the CSPP release of the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) software in support of the ATMS instrument onboard S-NPP, and the AMSU-A and MHS instruments onboard NOAA-18, NOAA-19, Metop-A and Metop-B satellites. This update includes the base NOAA software upgraded to version 11.1, and the creation of NOAA-18, -19, Metop-A and-B products at the resolution of the MHS instrument.

  • CSPP SDR Patch for CSPP V2.0 SDR software which allows processing of CrIS and VIIRS SDRs after the JPSS downlink of CrIS Full Spectral Resolution (FSR) begins. The increased direct broadcast data volume required to include CrIS FSR, results in VIIRS M-Band 7 and CrIS Field of View (FOV) 4 being excluded from the downlink. The Patch, labeled CSPP SDR V2.0.1, is required in order to process VIIRS SDRs and CrIS SDRs once this direct broadcast switch has been made.
