Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) Science Data Record (SDR) Software Version 1.5 Release

18 December 2013

New SDR packages supporting the calibration and geolocation of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instruments. This version is being co-released with the CSPP VIIRS EDR Version 1.2 software package.

What is new in CSPP SDR Version 1.5:

  • SDR software has been updated to NOAA IDPS version Mx7.2,
  • A new Look-Up-Table (LUT) is included that provides a VIIRS Day/Night Band stray light correction (See Appendix of Installation Document),
  • The CrIS SDR software now includes an automated truncation algorithm to handle full spectral resolution data, when it becomes available,
  • VIIRS software is ready for M-Band 7 reconstruction when downlink of CrIS Full Spectral Resolution data begins,
  • ATMS and CrIS SDRs can now be processed in parallel on multiple processor cores; the VIIRS multi-core processor option was added in the previous release.

The CSPP SDR software package is based on the Algorithm Development Library (ADL) software developed by Raytheon for the JPSS Project. ADL allows the operational processing algorithms for Suomi NPP to run without modification in a Linux environment. SSEC has packaged the ADL versions of the Suomi NPP algorithms so they can run from the Linux command line in real-time direct broadcast mode, but we have not changed the underlying processing software, algorithms, or data formats. The output files from the CSPP SDR processing software are identical in naming, format, and structure to the corresponding files from NOAA/NESDIS. The native format for NPP SDR products is HDF5, and descriptions of the NPP file formats are available here (see the Common Data Format Control Books).
