CSPP Sounder QuickLook (QL) Software for Display of HEAP NUCAPS, HSRTV, MiRS and IAPP Atmospheric Retrievals Version 1.3 Release
1 March 2024
Update to the CSPP software that can plot navigated sounder datasets derived from one of several software packages that create Environmental
Data Record (EDR) and Level 2 atmospheric retrievals. It consists of Sounder QuickLook (QL) plotting scripts, which generate
navigated pressure level plots of temperature and moisture, as well as Skew-T thermodynamic diagrams. Many options exist that allow the
user to customize the plots for a given region of interest.
The QL software supports the following CSPP retrieval packages:
- CSPP-Hyper-Spectral Enterprise Algorithm Package (HEAP) NOAA Unique CrIS/ATMS Processing System (NUCAPS) (CSPP-HEAP NUCAPS),
- CSPP Hyperspectral Sounder Retrieval (Dual Regression) (HSRTV),
- CSPP-Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (CSPP-MiRS), and
- CSPP-International ATOVS Processing Package (CSPP-IAPP).
What is New in CSPP Sounder Quicklook Release Version 1.3?
- Aggregated HEAP NUCAPS file support added.
- MiRS NOAA-21 support added.
- Finer control over plot elements, such as title, placement, colorbar and size.
- Removed support for HSRTV cloud top pressure and cloud top temperature plots.
System Requirements
- Intel or AMD CPU with 64-bit instruction support,
- 1 GB RAM,
- CentOS-7.9 64-bit Linux. The software has also been tested on Rocky Linux 8.9 and WSL Ubuntu 22.04,
- 3 GB of disk space (plus space for your own DB data and CSPP Sounder QL products).
The Sounder Quick Look plotting scripts include many options, allowing users to customize the
output images. Users can define the image geographic boundaries, map projection, data range of the plot and
map resolution. Other options include choosing to display a scatter plot, choosing the geographic center point of the
image as well as the output .png image resolution in Dots-per-Inch (DPI).
Software, execution scripts and documentation are included with the release.
