Tropical Depression Nine forms in the Gulf of Mexico, and is forecast to intensify to Tropical Storm (or possibly Hurricane) Isaias
1-minute Mesoscale Domain Sector GOES-19 (GOES-East) Infrared Window images (above) showed Tropical Depression Nine as it gradually developed a closed center of circulation in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico by 2100 UTC on 06 October 2026. Plots of GLM Flash Points depicted the lightning activity within the slowly-organizing tropical system. The coldest cloud-top infrared brightness temperatures associated with convective bursts were -85 to -89C.
Tropical Depression Nine was embedded within an environment of modest vertical wind shear, as seen in Visible images (above) and Infrared Window images (below).
