Probabilities, Uncertainties & Units Used to Quantify Climate Change Concepts
The IPCC Fifth Assessment (AR5) relies on two metrics for communicating the degree of certainty in their findngs: confidence in the validity of a finding based on type, amount, quality and consistency of evidence and quantified measures of uncertainty in a finding expressed probabilistically. In order to consistently quantify uncertainty across different disciplines and effectively communicate global climate change research to the public, the IPCC conveys statistical data via a "Likelihood" scale.
