Research that helps protect property and save lives
Weather affects everyone. Every year devastating storms result in lives lost and billions of dollars of damage. To keep ourselves, our families, and our communities safe, we all depend on timely and accurate weather information.
At NOAA’s Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison we conduct innovative research to improve weather forecasts. For more than 40 years, CIMSS science has helped improve our understanding in areas such as severe weather, wildfires, hurricanes, floods, and aviation turbulence. We are committed to supporting NOAA’s mission to protect property and save lives.
Research impacts
At CIMSS and the Space Science and Engineering Center our research is helping to create better satellite technologies, improve weather forecasting, and contribute to advances in AI. Read more about how CIMSS and SSEC research is making positive real-world impacts that improve public safety.
