Punch hole clouds in southeastern US
NASA's Terra MODIS satellite captured high resolution (250m) views of fall streak holes (hole punch clouds) over the southeast U.S. today. These unique phenomena are caused by aircraft passing through clouds with supercooled water droplets. Closeup view shown on the right.
