This is possibly one of the best cases of a "validated" data set, in that the measurements were taken over water; with very good spatial and temporal co-location with the in-situ measurements; relatively little atmospheric variation within the averaging periods; no indication of any clouds or significant aerosols; and perhaps most importantly; the radiosonde and Raman LIDAR measurements of the water vapor profiles are in relatively very good agreement in the lower atmosphere. When evaluating transmittance models with this data, however, please recognize that there are uncertainties in both the HIS spectra and in the atmospheric state data. For this reason, uncertainties in both have been provided. In particular, large errors in the sonde water vapor measurements are possible, especially above ~400 mbar.
