Sonde Launch

Introduction
CIMSS has been involved with deployment of the Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI) instrumentation in several ground based field experiments since 1989. With the acquistion of an NCAR radiosonde launch unit and Winnebago in 1995, CIMSS has developed a mobile atmospheric research platform affectionately called the AERIBAGO. A suite of instrumentation has been installed within the Winnebago and the platform has operated in several field campaigns including CSTRAT, WVIOP96, WVIOP97,CAMEX-3, WINCE, and WVSS.

Instrumentation
Several instruments are able to operate on generators or landline within the Winnebago:

  • AERI - Two band high spectral resolution interferometer; can operate on ram through top of BAGO to view land surface properties or inside BAGO for atmospheric retrievals
  • Radiosondes
  • GPS
  • Vaisala Ceilometer
  • Surface Station
