ABI - The Next Generation GOES Imager

Satellite Meteorology

Created by UW-Madison, 2002

The Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) is being developed as the future imager on the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) series, slated to be launched in approximately 2015 on the GOES-R satellite. Similar to the current GOES imager, ABI will be used for a wide range of qualitative and quantitative applications while providing numerous improvements for monitoring weather, oceans, and climate.
The following table provides a comparison of the capabilities of the future GOES imager (or ABI) with the current GOES imager.
