This loop of GOES-8 visible imagery shows convective snow squalls that developed over parts of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin on 12 February 1999. Surface reports of weather (black) and horizontal visibilty (blue, if 3.0 miles or less) are also plotted on the imagery.
The initial visible image shows snow depth reports (yellow, in inches) at 12:00 UTC on 12 February. There was no snow on the ground across Illinois, extreme southeastern Iowa, or extreme southern Wisconsin prior to the arrival of the convective snow squalls.
