This loop of GOES-8 rapid-scan visible imagery shows the well-defined eye of Hurricane Mitch as it moved slowly northwestward across the Caribbean Sea (off the coast of Honduras) on 26 October 1998. The 5-10 minute interval of this imagery reveals the rapid cyclonic motion of low cloud features within the eye. Isolated overshooting convective cloud elements can also be seen in the feeder band to the southwest of the eye.
