This loop of GOES-8 10.7 micron longwave InfraRed imagery shows the well-defined eye and very cold cloud top temperatures (below -80 C) exhibited by Hurricane Mitch as it moved slowly northwestward across the Caribbean Sea (off the coast of Honduras) on 26 October 1998. The coldest cloud tops were found within the southern semicircle of the storm.
