Note the elongated E-W oriented regions of subsidence (warming/darkening on the water vapor imagery) that develop over and just to the south of the location of the turbulence report (near 33.5 N, 123.5 W). The time of the pilot report was 20:14 UTC, at the location of the cyan circle on the 20:15 UTC water vapor image.
