19 March 1998 -- GOES-10 0.65 Micrometer Visible Channel
Undular Bore Over South Texas
(- Animation -)
This 3-hour loop of 5-15 minute interval GOES-10 0.65 micrometer visible imagery (from the GOES-10 Science and Operations Test) shows the southeastward progression of an undular bore ahead of the leading edge of an advancing cold front. Surface wind barbs (blue) show that the winds change from southeasterly at 5-10 knots ahead of the front to northwesterly at 10-30 knots as the feature passes through the extreme southern counties of Texas and adjacent parts of northeastern Mexico.
Several shallow gravity waves can also be seen propagating northeastward through the stratocumulus clouds over the western Gulf of Mexico.
