GOES-10 0.65 micrometer visible imagery (available at 5-10 minute intervals during the GOES-10 Science and Operations Test) shows the southeastward progression of an undular bore along the leading edge of an advancing cold front. Surface winds changed from southeasterly at 5-10 knots ahead of the bore to northwesterly at 10-30 knots as the feature passed through the extreme southern counties of Texas and adjacent parts of northern Mexico. This feature was the topic of a Monthly Weather Review "Picture of the Month" (1998).
Several shallow gravity waves can also be seen propagating northeastward through the offshore stratocumulus clouds over the western Gulf of Mexico.
