  OMPS Ozone Retrieval Environmental Data Record (EDR) Software Version 1.0 Release

This is the first release of the CSPP NOAA/NESDIS/STAR JPSS Ozone Mapping and Profiler (OMPS) Ozone Environmental Data Record (EDR) software package for creating atmospheric ozone retrievals from direct broadcast NOAA-21, NOAA-20 and Suomi-NPP Sensor Data Records (SDRs).

The software includes both the Version 8 Ozone Profile (V8PRO) and the Version 8 Total Column (TC) Ozone (V8TOz) EDR product retrieval software that uses input from both OMPS Nadir Mapper (NM) and Nadir Profiler (NP) instruments. This release includes binary executable files, supporting static data files, and input/output files for verifying a successful local installation.

CSPP OMPS Version 1.0 Output Products

The CSPP OMPS EDR software supports the creation of the following products from the NOAA-21, NOAA-20 and S-NPP OMPS NM and NP instruments:
  • Total Column Ozone in Dobson Units (V8TOZ-EDR_v4r5*.nc files),
  • Ozone Profile 21-layer retrieval in Dobson Units (V8PRO-EDR_v4r5*.nc files).

Other information calculated during processing includes effective UV reflectivity, absorbing aerosol index values, and retrieval information. There is no dynamic ancillary data required.

The NOAA ASSISTT group worked with the CSPP team to integrate the JPSS processing framework algorithms into standalone executables. These can be executed through simple CSPP bash shell and Python scripts. The output files are identical in naming, format (NetCDF), and structure to the corresponding NOAA archived files.

CSPP OMPS EDR Ozone Version 1.0 System Requirements
  • Intel or AMD CPU with 64-bit instruction support,
  • 8 GB RAM,
  • Rocky Linux 8.10. The software has also been tested on Rocky Linux release 9.7,
  • 3 GB disk space (minimum).

Because instrument sampling and data aggregation vary across the JPSS fleet, the spatial resolution of these output products differs significantly between NOAA-21, NOAA-20, and S-NPP. Please see the CSPP OMPS EDR installation guide for specific details.
