The CIMSS summer workshop on Atmospheric, Earth and Space Sciences features an exciting four-day agenda in meteorology, astronomy, land remote sensing and geology. Participating students stay on campus in lakeside dorms and experience science education, research and technology through hands-on activities working directly with scientists, graduate students and professors. To learn more, read about past workshops and check out the photo gallery.

We cover a variety of science topics during each workshop, such as:

  • Atmospheric Science: Weather satellites, map analysis and forecasting, global climate change, and videographic tools; includes field trips to a local TV Weather station and the Milwaukee area National Weather Service office

  • Earth Science: Plate tectonics, earthquakes, glaciology, and tsunamis; includes a field trip to Devils Lake State Park

  • Remote Sensing of Earth and Other Planets: Monitoring of natural resources from earth orbiting satellites, digital image processing, and geographic information systems (GIS); exploring the surface of planetary atmospheres; includes trips to UW-Planetarium and Space Place
