This loop of GOES-8 10.7 micrometer InfraRed (IR) imagery shows the development of convection associated with Tropical Storm Bret over the Gulf of Mexico. The images are at 5 to 10 minute intervals (Rapid Scan Operations, RSO), and includes a period of 1 minute interval imagery (Super Rapid Scan Operations, SRSO). Note how the Central Dense Overcast (CDO) dissipates early in the loop, and then regenerates toward the end of the loop. Cloud top temperatures within the CDO region were -70 to -80 C (black to light gray enhancement).
