01 November 2000 | GOES-8 Water Vapor + Upper Level Wind Divergence

Java applet developed by Tom Whittaker, CIMSS / SSEC

This loop of GOES-8 6.7 micrometer IR ("water vapor") imagery includes NOGAPS model 300 mb divergence blended with satellite-derived upper level divergence. Note that the upper level divergence increased over the Black Hills and surrounding region around 05 UTC, and strong upper level divergence persisteduntil about 14 UTC. Deep synoptic-scale upward vertical motion beneath this region of divergence supported heavy snowfall during the day on 01 November.
