This loop of GOES-8 Wildfire Automated Biomass Burning Algorithm (ABBA) Composite imagery shows smoke and detected fires over Louisiana and Texas on 05 September 2000. Fires are classified by the ABBA. Note the saturated fire pixels (yellow pixels) in southern Louisiana and extreme eastern Texas; these very hot fires were responsible for the largest smoke plumes, which drifted southward over the Gulf of Mexico.
