Comparisons of one year of MODIS to a 31-year surface data set from Warren et al., as reported by Key.  Curves are almost the same shape except for February and March.  Obviously, daytime obs in the winter months are coming from the southernmost parts of the Arctic where there are supposedly more clouds.  But this also may indicate too many clouds in terminator regions processed by the daytime MODIS algorithm.
