June 6th, 2002 | GOES West Visible Images

This series of visible satellite images show how the low stratus clouds slowly clear away from the coast during the morning. On this particular day (June 6th, 2002) a strong onshore flow from a "Catalina Eddy" circulation was acting to slow the burnoff of fog and stratus along the immediate coastal region of southern California.

If you look closely you can also see thin plumes of smoke high in the sky drifting southwestward from a 10,000 acre wildfire which was burning in the Los Padres National Forest.
