In addition, there were tornadoes that produced EF-1 and EF-2 damage in southwestern Minnesota (<a title=\"NWS Sioux Falls summary\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crh.noaa.gov\/news\/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=fsd&amp;storyid=70339&amp;source=0\"><strong>NWS Sioux Falls summary<\/strong><\/a>), EF-1 rated tornadoes in central Minnesota (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crh.noaa.gov\/news\/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=mpx&amp;storyid=70302&amp;source=0\">NWS Minneapolis summary<\/a><\/strong>), and a tornado that produced EF-2 damage in northwestern Wisconsin (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crh.noaa.gov\/dlh\/?n=1jul2011_solonsprings\">NWS Duluth tornado event summary<\/a><\/strong>). At a campground in northwestern Wisconsin there was one fatality and 39 injuries as a result of falling trees from severe straight-line winds.<\/p>\n<p>An AWIPS image of POES AVHRR 10.8 \u00c2\u00b5m IR data at 20:21 UTC or 3:21 PM local time <strong><em>(above)<\/em><\/strong> showed the initial thunderstorm as it was intensifying near the South Dakota \/ Minnesota border, along with the resulting widespread reports of hail and wind damage as the thunderstorm complex grew and moved northeastward (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crh.noaa.gov\/dlh\/?n=1jul2011_extremewind\">NWS Duluth event summary<\/a><\/strong>). The coldest cloud top IR brightness temperature on the AVHRR image was <strong>-81\u00c2\u00baC<\/strong> <em>(violet color enhancement)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>McIDAS images of GOES-13 0.63 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel data <strong><em>(below; click image to play animation; also available as a <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2011\/07\/110701_g13_vis.mov\">QuickTime movie<\/a>)<\/em><\/strong> showed numerous overshooting tops associated with the severe thunderstorms as they moved from eastern South Dakota across Minnesota and into northwestern Wisconsin.
