images  <strong><em>(above; click image to play animation)<\/em><\/strong> revealed a mid-latitude cyclone over the eastern North Pacific Ocean on <strong><a title=\"28 January 2011 daily weather map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20110128.html\">28 January<\/a> &#8211; <a title=\"29 January 2011 daily weather map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20110129.html\">29 January 2011<\/a><\/strong> &#8212; and this cyclone was reaching the occluded stage of its life cycle, as seen by the classic water vapor image signature of dry air wrapping into the center of the circulation.<\/p>\n<p>AWIPS images of the 10-km resolution GOES-11 sounder <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/~jordang\/awips-goes\/index.html\">Total Column Ozone<\/a><\/strong> product <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> showed there were elevated levels of ozone <em>(350 to 400 Dobson Units, green to red color enhancement)<\/em> associated with this occluding cyclone.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2011\/01\/110128_goes_ozone_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"GOES-11 sounder Total Column Ozone images\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2011\/01\/110128_goes_ozone_anim.gif\" alt=\"GOES-11 sounder Total Column Ozone images\" width=\"480\" height=\"459\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-11 sounder Total Column Ozone images<\/p><\/div>\n<p>An AWIPS comparison of the 1-km resolution <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/training\/visit\/training_sessions\/modis_products_in_awips\/\">MODIS<\/a><\/strong> 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor image with the corresponding 8-km resolution GOES-11 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor image\u00c2\u00a0 <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> demonstrated the advantage of higher spatial resolution for visualizing some of the finer details of the cyclone structure.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2011\/01\/110129_11z_modis_goes_wv_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"MODIS 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m and GOES-11 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor images\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2011\/01\/110129_11z_modis_goes_wv_anim.gif\" alt=\"MODIS 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m and GOES-11 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor images\" width=\"480\" height=\"459\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">MODIS 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m and GOES-11 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor images<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An animation of 8-km resolution GOES-11 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m &#8220;water vapor channel&#8221;
