{"id":72539,"date":"2026-10-08T16:58:42","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T16:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/?p=72539"},"modified":"2026-10-09T02:59:02","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T02:59:02","slug":"hurricane-isaias-forms-in-the-gulf-of-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/72539","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane Isaias forms in the Gulf, northwest of Mexico&#8217;s Yucatan Peninsula"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/10\/261008_g19_ir_Hur_Isa.mov\" playsinline><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>1-minute GOES-19 Infrared Window images with plots of GLM Flash Points, from 0301-1600 UTC on 08 October<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/72510\">Tropical Storm Isaias<\/a><\/strong> reached hurricane intensity at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/archive\/2026\/al09\/al092026.update.10080328.shtml\">0330 UTC<\/a><\/strong> on 08 October 2026 &#8212; becoming the first Atlantic Basin (which includes the Gulf of Mexico) hurricane of the 2026 season. 1-minute Mesoscale Domain Sector GOES-19 <em>(GOES-East)<\/em> Infrared Window images <strong><em>(above)<\/em><\/strong> showed the deep convection in the vicinity of the surface storm center of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/archive\/2026\/ISAIAS.shtml?\">Hurricane Isaias<\/a><\/strong> &#8212; with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/spacesegment\/glm.html\">GLM<\/a><\/strong> Flash Points displaying lightning activity with many areas of deep convection.
