Plots of 1-minute GOES-19 GLM Flash Points highlighted the intermittent lightning activity associated with Edouard. Pulses of overshooting tops exhibited infrared brightness temperatures in the -75 to -80 C range (brighter white pixels embedded within dark black regions).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Edouard was moving through an environment of low deep-layer wind shear <em>(<strong>below)<\/strong><\/em>, a factor which favored intensification.                                                                             <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/09\/260901_g19_ir_2200utc_shear_Edouardo.mp4\" playsinline><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>GOES-19 Infrared Window images with an overlay of contours and streamlines of deep-layer wind shear at 2200 UTC on 01 September<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sea Surface Temperatures across the northwestern Gulf of Mexico were also very warm <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> &#8212; and water temperatures just off the Gulf Coast (where Edouard intensified to a Tropical Storm shortly before making landfall) were 31 C.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/09\/260901_sst_Edouard.gif\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Sea Surface Temperature on 01 September, with an overlay of the track of Edouard<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An AMSR Microwave image at 1908 UTC <strong>(<em>below)<\/em><\/strong> indicated that the eyewall of Edouard was not fully closed at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/09\/260901_1908utc_atms_microwave_Edouard.gif\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>ATMS 183 GHz Microwave image at 1908 UTC on 01 September<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/real-time\/mtpw2\/product.php?color_type=tpw_nrl_colors&amp;prod=global2&amp;timespan=24hrs&amp;anim=html5\">MIMIC Total Precipitable Water<\/a><\/strong> image at 2200 UTC <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> showed that significant moisture had already moved inland across southeast Texas as Edouard was making landfall.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/09\/260901_2200utc_mimicTPW_Edouard.gif\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>MIMIC Total Precipitable Water image at 2200 UTC on 01 September, with an overlay of the track of Edouard ending at 1800 UTC<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1-minute GOES-19 Infrared Window images that included overlays of Flood Watch\/Warning\/Advisory polygons <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> displayed several Flash Flood Warnings (red polygons) and even a Flash Flood Emergency (bold red polygon).
