SPC had highlighted much of eastern Washington as having an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/08\/260801_spc_fireWeatherOutlook.png\">Extreme Fire Risk<\/a><\/strong> on that day &#8212; and a rare <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/08\/260801_kotx_rfw.text\">Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Red Flag Warning<\/a><\/strong> was issued for the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1-minute GOES-18 GeoColor RGB images with an overlay of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/ngfs\/\">Next Generation Fire System<\/a><\/strong> (NGFS) Fire Detection polygons <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> provided a better view of the thermal structure\/intensity of wildfires in the Spokane area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/08\/260801_g18_geoColorRGB_ngfsFireDetections_OldTrailsFire_WA.mov\" playsinline><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>1-minute GOES-18 GeoColor RGB images with an overlay of NGFS Fire Detection polygons, from 1900 UTC on 01 August to 0200 UTC on 02 August<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1-minute GOES-18 True Color RGB images from the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/geosphere.ssec.wisc.edu\/#playing:true;coordinate:25097,-99098;zoom:1.4;satellite:goeswest;num_frames:48;\">CSPP GeoSphere<\/a><\/strong> site <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> displayed a larger-scale view of the smoke plumes produced by the Spokane area wildfires.
