This bolide created a sonic boom that was heard in several communities.<\/p>\n<p>GLM gridded products such as Flash Extent Density are plotted to correspond to a mean cloud top height &#8212; which is about 10 km over CONUS. Non-gridded GLM parameters such as Groups <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> include a <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/webapps\/parallax\/overview.html\"><strong>parallax<\/strong><\/a> correction that maps them to the surface &#8212; which if removed, shifts the Group locations to the north so that they more closely correspond to the location of the Flash Extent Density signature.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/03\/260317_1301utc_goes19_visible_glmGroups_default_vs_parallaxCorrectedSurfaceLocations_Lake_Erie_Ohio_bolide_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/03\/260317_1301utc_goes19_visible_glmGroups_default_vs_parallaxCorrectedSurfaceLocations_Lake_Erie_Ohio_bolide_anim.gif\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-19 Visible image at 1301 UTC on 17 March, with 5-minute GLM Groups (red) plotted in their default &#8220;cloud top&#8221; locations and parallax-corrected &#8220;surface&#8221; locations [click to enlarge]<\/p><\/div>A map of fireball reports from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amsmeteors.org\"><strong>American Meteor Society<\/strong><\/a> site <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> displayed the large area from which this event was seen. A closer view indicated that the bolide likely traveled along a <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2026\/03\/260317_bolide_trajectory.png\"><strong>north-to-south trajectory<\/strong><\/a>.
