In <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/09\/10030_ilm_pns.text\">Wilmington, North Carolina<\/a><\/strong> they received an amazing <strong>23.36 inches<\/strong> of rainfall during the 5-day period.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>AWIPS images of GOES-13 6.5 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor channel data during the 29-30 September period<em><strong> (above)<\/strong><\/em> showed that a great deal of clouds and moisture were flowing northward along a stalled frontal boundary.<\/p>\n<p>AWIPS images of the <a title=\"Blended Total Precipitable Water product\" href=\"http:\/\/www.osdpd.noaa.gov\/bTPW\/\"><strong>Blended Total Precipitable Water<\/strong><\/a> (TPW) product <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed TPW values as high as 60 to 75 mm <em>(2.4 to 2.9 inches)<\/em> moving northward along the Eastern Seaboard during much of the 5-day period.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/09\/100926-30_BlendedTPW.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"Blended Total Precipitable Water product (26 - 30 September)\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/09\/100926-30_BlendedTPW_click-to-play.jpg\" alt=\"Blended Total Precipitable Water product (26 - 30 September)\" width=\"480\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Blended Total Precipitable Water product (26 - 30 September)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>These high TPW values were in excess of 200% of normal <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> for that region and for that time of year.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/09\/100926-30_PercentNormalTPW.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Percent of Normal Total Precipitable Water product (26 - 30 September)\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/09\/100926-30_PercentNormalTPW_click-to-play.jpg\" alt=\"Percent of Normal Total Precipitable Water product (26 - 30 September)\" width=\"480\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Percent of Normal Total Precipitable Water product (26 - 30 September)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>AWIPS images of the <a title=\"MIMIC Total Precipitable Water product\" href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/tropic\/real-time\/tpw2\/global2\/main.html\"><strong>MIMIC Total Precipitable Water<\/strong><\/a> product<em><strong> (below)<\/strong><\/em> suggested that a portion of the moisture feed may actually have been coming from the tropical Pacific!<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/09\/100926-30_mimicTPW.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"MIMIC Total Precipitable Water product (26 - 30 September)\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/09\/100926-30_mimicTPW_click-to-play.jpg\" alt=\"MIMIC Total Precipitable Water product (26 - 30 September)\" width=\"480\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">MIMIC Total Precipitable Water product (26 - 30 September)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Within this plume of rich tropical moisture, vigorous convective cells were developing over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream and then feeding northward.
