These 2 wildfires prompted the issuance of a few <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/05\/250512_wildfire_evacuation_orders_MN.png\"><strong>evacuation orders<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thick smoke drifted northeastward across the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and crossed the Canadian border &#8212; GOES-19 Aerosol Optical Depth values with these smoke plumes were as high as 1.0 <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1311px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/05\/goeseast_abi_radm1_true_color_night+aod_s20250512160028_e20250513005925_f540.mp4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/05\/goeseast_abi_radm1_true_color_night+aod_20250512230028.png\" width=\"1301\" height=\"738\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">1-minute GOES-19 Aerosol Optical Depth derived product [click to play MP4 animation]<\/p><\/div>A NGFS probe of the Jenkins Creek Fire at 2120 UTC on 12 May <em><strong>(below<\/strong><\/em> showed various parameters of the thermal anomaly at that time.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 3002px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/05\/250512_2120utc_JenkinsCreekFire_ngfs_probe.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/05\/250512_2120utc_JenkinsCreekFire_ngfs_probe.png\" width=\"2992\" height=\"1838\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">NGFS probe of the Jenkins Creek Fire at 2120 UTC on 12 May [click to enlarge]<\/p><\/div>The Camp House Fire began on the previous day, and had continued burning through the subsequent nighttime hours &#8212; its nocturnal glow was evident in a NOAA-21 VIIRS Day\/Night Band image at 0831 UTC (3:31 AM local time), just northeast of Brimson <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 3002px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/05\/250512_0831utc_noaa21_viirs_dayNightBand_CampHouseFire_2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/05\/250512_0831utc_noaa21_viirs_dayNightBand_CampHouseFire_2.png\" width=\"2992\" height=\"1666\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">NOAA-21 (mislabeled as NPP) VIIRS Day\/Night Band (0.7 \u00b5m) image valid at 0831 UTC on 12 May [click to enlarge]<\/p><\/div>1-minute GOES-19 Visible images with an overlay of the <a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/training\/visit\/training_sessions\/goes_r_fire_surface_properties\/video\/presentation_html5.html?lms=1\"><strong>Fire Detection and Characterization Algorithm<\/strong><\/a> (FDCA) Fire Mask derived product <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> also showed the thermal signatures and smoke plumes of the 2 larger wildfires (along with a 3rd, smaller wildfire that began to the southwest at 1953 UTC near Shaw).
