The peak wind gust at El Paso, Texas (KELP) was 50 kts (58 mph), and blowing dust reduced the visibility to 1\/4 mile at Carlsbad, New Mexico (KCNM). GOES-19 <a href=\"https:\/\/rammb2.cira.colostate.edu\/trainings\/visit\/training_sessions\/goes_r_derived_motion_vectors\/\"><strong>Derived Motion Winds<\/strong><\/a> indicated that the leading edge of the blowing dust was moving at speeds up to <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/04\/250419_2231utc_g19_vis_dmw.png\"><strong>35 kts<\/strong><\/a> across northern Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Several Blowing Dust Warnings were issued by the NWS Forecast Offices in El Paso and Midland <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em>, which at times covered parts of Interstates 10 and 20 in New Mexico and Texas.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 3010px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/04\/250419_g19_vis_warnings_NM_TX.mp4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/04\/250419_2201z_g19_vis_warnings_NM_TX.png\" width=\"3000\" height=\"1666\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Same GOES-19 imagery and overlays as above, but including plots of Dust Storm Warning polygons (light brown) [click to play MP4 animation]<\/p><\/div>Daytime True Color RGB images created using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/software\/geo2grid\/\"><strong>Geo2Grid<\/strong><\/a> <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> provided a more distinct view of the blowing dust \u2014 and after sunset, <a href=\"https:\/\/rammb2.cira.colostate.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Dust_RGB_Quick_Guide-1.pdf\"><strong>Dust RGB<\/strong><\/a> images highlighted the airborne dust as shades of magenta.
