McIDAS images of 1-km resolution GOES-15 0.63 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel data <strong><em>(above)<\/em><\/strong> showed the rapid development of this thunderstorm (along with several other storms across Arizona) &#8212; the time and location of the surface wind gust is annotated as &#8220;<strong>G79<\/strong>&#8221; on the 20:30 UTC image. <\/p>\n<p>GOES-15 is currently providing imagery during its <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/projects\/goes-p\/\">Post Launch Science Test<\/a><\/strong>; real-time GOES-15 imagery is available for viewing on the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/data\/geo\/index.php?satellite=goes15&#038;channel=ir4&#038;coverage=conus&#038;file=gif&#038;imgoranim=8&#038;anim_method=flash\">SSEC Geostationary Image Browser<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The corresponding 4-km resolution GOES-15 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR images <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> revealed that cloud top temperatures quickly cooled to -60\u00c2\u00ba C and colder <em>(red color enhancement)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/08\/100817_g15_ir4_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"GOES-15 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR images\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/08\/100817_g15_ir4_anim.gif\" alt=\"GOES-15 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR images\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-15 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR images<\/p><\/div>\n<p>An AWIPS image of the 1-km resolution MODIS 11.0 \u00c2\u00b5m IR channel data <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> shortly before the report of strong surface winds indicated that this storm exhibited a subtle &#8220;enhanced-v&#8221; storm top signature, with a minimum IR brightness temperature of -80\u00c2\u00ba C.
