GOES-18 nighttime Dust RGB and daytime True Color RGB images, from 0900 UTC on 16 March to 0000 UTC on 17 March [click to play animated GIF | MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>10-minute Full Disk scan GOES-18 (GOES-West)<\/em> nighttime Dust RGB<\/strong><\/a> and daytime True Color RGB images created using Geo2Grid<\/strong><\/a> (above)<\/strong><\/em> showed a plume of resuspended ash (shades of pink in Dust RGB, hazy shades of tan in True Color RGB) from the 1912 Novarupta-Katmai<\/strong><\/a> eruption in Alaska, which was being transported offshore across the Shelikof Strait<\/strong><\/a> toward Kodiak Island on 16 March 2025. Surface volcanic ash within the Valley Of Ten Thousand Smokes<\/strong><\/a> was being lofted by strong northwesterly winds (on the back side of a slowly-deepening Gale Force Low<\/strong><\/a> located near the southcentral Alaska coast) that were being channeled through the valley.<\/p>\n

According to this USGS Volcano Notice<\/strong><\/a>, the National Weather Service issued a SIGMET advising that the maximum height of this resuspended ash was 6000 ft.<\/p>\n
