This blowing dust caused marked reductions in visibility &#8212; leading to closures of Interstates 10 and 25 near Deming <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/03\/250303_KDMN_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>KDMN<\/strong><\/a> and Las Cruces <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/03\/250303_KLRU_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>KLRU <\/strong><\/a> in southern New Mexico, in addition to multiple-vehicle accidents near Roswell <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/03\/250303_KROW_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>KROW<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>GOES-16 True Color RGB images from the <a href=\"https:\/\/geosphere.ssec.wisc.edu\/#playing:true;coordinate:-45673,93750;zoom:1.4;num_frames:49;\"><strong>CSPP GeoSphere<\/strong><\/a> site <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> provided a more distinct view of the dense blowing dust, which eventually stretched from northern Mexico to far southeast Colorado and far southwest Kansas. Note the plume of blowing sand whose source region was White Sands National Park in southern New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1311px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/03\/goeseast_abi_radc_true_color_night_s20250303161117_e20250304000117_f94.mp4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2025\/03\/goeseast_abi_radc_true_color_night_20250303235117.png\" width=\"1301\" height=\"723\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-16 True Color RGB images, from 1611 UTC on 03 March to 0001 UTC on 04 March [click to play MP4 animation]<\/p><\/div>After sunset, GOES-16 Nighttime Microphysics RGB images <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed that the leading edge of the airborne dust (highlighted by brighter shades of magenta) advanced as far northward as Nebraska and South Dakota.
