[click to play MP4 animation]<\/p><\/div>GOES-16 <em>(GOES-East)<\/em> Red Visible (0.64 \u00b5m) images <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> revealed the development of Horizontal Convective Roll (HCR) clouds \u2014 a signature often associated with blowing snow \u2014 across parts of eastern North Dakota western Minnesota on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20250112.html\"><strong>12th January 2025<\/strong><\/a>. Strong northwesterly winds in the wake of an arctic cold front were gusting to 25-30 knots at several locations, with blowing snow restricting the surface visibility to 1 mile or less at times.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rammb2.cira.colostate.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/GOES-BlowingSnowRGB1_QuickGuide_24April2024.pdf\"><strong>Blowing Snow RGB<\/strong><\/a> images from GOES-19 (Preliminary\/Non-operational) \u2014 created using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/software\/geo2grid\/\"><strong>Geo2Grid<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 provided a more detailed view of the widespread HCR clouds <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em>.
