The relatively tight pressure gradient south of this low (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2024\/10\/241025_1800utc_AK_surface_analysis.gif\"><strong>surface analysis<\/strong><\/a>) was forcing fairly strong W-SW winds across the North Slope and Arctic coast of Alaska (as well as the adjacent Canadian provinces of Yukon and the Northwest Territories).<\/p>\n<p>A Suomi-NPP VIIRS Day\/Night Band image with an overlay of Metop-B ASCAT winds <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> depicted the flow across the offshore waters north of Alaska &#8212; where <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2024\/10\/241025_AK_hazards.png\"><strong>Heavy Freezing Spray Warnings<\/strong><\/a> were issued for the <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2024\/10\/241025_AK_sic.jpg\"><strong>ice-free waters<\/strong><\/a>.
