According to media reports, this snow  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/traffic\/15306445\/detail.html\" title=\"media story\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>closed sections of Interstate 8<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>(between Alpine and Ocotillo) for<strong> <\/strong>more than 12 hours on the previous day; as much as <strong>8.5 inches<\/strong> of snow was reported at Cuyamaca Peak (elevation 4820 feet) in San Diego county.<\/p>\n<p>An AWIPS image of the MODIS Land Surface Temperature (LST) product <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> indicated that  LST values were in the 30\u00c2\u00ba-40\u00c2\u00ba F range <em>(green enhancement)<\/em> in the region of the snow cover, compared to the much warmer bare ground areas to the west and to the east where LST values were generally between 60\u00c2\u00ba and 70\u00c2\u00ba F <em>(orange enhancement)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2008\/02\/MODIS_LST_20080215_1851.png\" title=\"MODIS Land Surface Temperature product\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2008\/02\/MODIS_LST_20080215_1851.png\" title=\"MODIS Land Surface Temperature product\" alt=\"MODIS Land Surface Temperature product\" align=\"middle\" height=\"459\" width=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MODIS true color imagery from the SSEC MODIS Today site (above, viewed using Google Earth) shows extensive snow cover over the higher elevations of southern California (and Baja California in Mexico) on 15 February 2008.
