VIIRS imagery, above, from the SSEC\/CIMSS Direct Broadcast antenna, shows <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/07\/VIIRS_I05-20240708_082539.png\"> infrared (I05, 11.45 \u00b5m)<\/a> imagery and <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/07\/VIIRS_DNB-20240708_082539.png\">Day Night Band visible (0.7 \u00b5m)<\/a> imagery around the time of landfall. Subsequent to landfall, the satellite presentation of the storm degrades, as expected.  Heavy Rains and Storm Surge along the coast will remain threats through the day on the 8th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1524\" height=\"1008\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/07\/G16B13_GLMFED-20240708_0651_to_1321anim.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-60248\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">GOES-16 Clean Window (Band 13, 10.3 \u00b5m) infrared imagery along with GOES-16 GLM Flash Extent Density, 0651-1321 UTC on 8 July 2024 (Click to enlarge)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>For the last hours of her time over the western Gulf of Mexico, Beryl was in a very favorable environment for strengthening.  Shear values (<a href=\"https:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/real-time\/windmain.php?&amp;basin=atlantic&amp;sat=wg8&amp;prod=wvir&amp;zoom=&amp;time=\">source<\/a>, shown below) were low and SSTs were very warm.  Prior to this time, strengthening of Beryl was in part limited by a lack of an inner core, as shown in this <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/07\/gcom-w1_amsr2_btemp_36.5_89.0ah_20240707_191600_02L_BERYL_toggle.gif\">microwave (36.5 and 89.0 GHz) toggle<\/a> from 1916 UTC on 7 July, taken from the <a href=\"https:\/\/dbps.aoml.noaa.gov\/browser\/?date=2024-07-08&amp;site=all&amp;group=all&amp;satellite=all&amp;sensor=all&amp;product=all\">direct broadcast site at AOML<\/a>;  unfortunately, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/datacenter\/polar_orbit_tracks\/data\/GCOM-W1\/2024\/2024_07_08_190\/NA.gif\">the 8 July 2024 morning passes of GCOM<\/a> did not sample Beryl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/07\/WindShear_0600_08July2024.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-60249\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">200-850-mb Wind Shear, 0600 UTC on 8 July 2024 (Click to enlarge)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For the latest information on Beryl, refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/\">National Hurricane Center<\/a> and to local National Weather Service offices:  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/crp\/\">Corpus Christi<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/hgx\/\">Houston\/Galveston<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/lch\/\">Lake Charles<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/fwd\/\">Dallas\/Fort Worth<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/shv\/\">Shreveport<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hurricane Beryl made a (final) landfall along the Texas Gulf Coast, near Matagorda TX, at about 4 AM CDT\/0900 UTC on 8 July.
