{"id":60173,"date":"2024-07-03T19:18:28","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T19:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/?p=60173"},"modified":"2024-07-03T19:21:13","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T19:21:13","slug":"most-subtle-rocket-booster-re-entry-signal-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/60173","title":{"rendered":"Most Subtle Rocket Booster Re-Entry Signal Ever?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nesdis.noaa.gov\/news-events\/noaas-goes-u\">GOES-U<\/a> rocket launch on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/image-article\/noaas-goes-u-satellite-launches\/\">SpaceX Falcon Heavy<\/a> provided an opportunity for <a href=\"https:\/\/geosphere.ssec.wisc.edu\/#coordinate:0,0;\">GOES-East<\/a> (16) and <a href=\"https:\/\/geosphere.ssec.wisc.edu\/#coordinate:0,0;satellite:goeswest;\">-West<\/a> (18) to monitor the launch and booster re-entries. Both the operational GOES were taking special (research) ABI meso-scale sectors of the launch, with GOES-16 providing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/datacenter\/plot-mesoscales\/archive\/goes-east\/GOES-16-m1-m2-boxes-2024177.gif\">1-min imagery<\/a> and GOES-18 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/datacenter\/plot-mesoscales\/archive\/goes-west\/GOES-18-m1-m2-boxes-2024177.gif\">30-sec<\/a> (both sectors). This <a href=\"https:\/\/glossary.ametsoc.org\/wiki\/Parallax\">parallax<\/a> isn&#8217;t an error, just a difference in viewing. This is why the rocket appears farther east when viewed from GOES-West.
