<\/a>1-minute GOES-16 \u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m, top) and \u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.3 \u00b5m, bottom) images with time-matched (+\/- 3 minutes) SPC Storm Reports plotted in red\/blue, from 2232 UTC on 22 June to 0122 UTC on 23 June [click to play animated GIF | MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>1-minute\u00a0Mesoscale Domain Sector<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0GOES-16\u00a0(GOES-East)<\/em>\u00a0\u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) and \u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.3 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images\u00a0(above)<\/strong><\/em> showed thunderstorms that produced\u00a07 tornadoes<\/strong><\/a>, hail as large as 2.00 inch in diameter and damaging wind gusts across southern Wisconsin (SPC Storm Reports<\/strong><\/a>) on\u00a022 June 2024<\/strong><\/a>. The Infrared images revealed pulses of thunderstorm overshooting tops that exhibited 10.3 \u00b5m brightness temperatures as cold as -75\u00baC (brighter white pixels embedded within dark black regions) — and brief Enhanced-V<\/strong><\/a> cloud-top signatures were evident with some of the storms. A few short-lived Above-Anvil Cirrus Plumes (reference<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0VISIT training<\/strong><\/a>) could be seen in the Visible images (although there was no corresponding distinct AACP signature in the lower-resolution Infrared images).<\/p>\n 1-minute GOES-16 Visible and Infrared images with an overlay of GLM<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Flash Extent Density<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed the lightning activity associated with these thunderstorms, which included a few brief lightning jumps.<\/p>\n
