{"id":589,"date":"2007-12-29T22:02:00","date_gmt":"2007-12-29T22:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/589"},"modified":"2007-12-30T21:11:24","modified_gmt":"2007-12-30T21:11:24","slug":"another-subtropical-storm-in-the-atlantic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/589","title":{"rendered":"Another subtropical storm in the Atlantic?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/12\/071229_g12_ir_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 10.7\u00c2\u00b5m IR images (Animated GIF)\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/12\/071229_g12_ir_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 10.7\u00c2\u00b5m IR images (Animated GIF)\" alt=\"GOES-12 10.7\u00c2\u00b5m IR images (Animated GIF)\" align=\"middle\" height=\"365\" width=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you thought that <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/585\" title=\"Tropical Storm Olga\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Tropical Storm Olga<\/strong><\/a> was the last gasp of the 2007 North Atlantic basin&#8217;s Tropical Cyclone season, think again:  GOES-12 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR channel imagery  <em><strong>(above; <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/12\/071229_g12_ir_zoom_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 10.7\u00c2\u00b5m IR images (Animated GIF)\" target=\"_blank\">closer view<\/a>)<\/strong><\/em> and 6.5 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor channel imagery <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> revealed a circulation southwest of the Azores on <strong>29 December 2007<\/strong> (centered near 28\u00c2\u00ba North latitude, 47\u00c2\u00ba West longitude) that appeared to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/text\/refresh\/MIADSAAT+shtml\/291919.shtml?\" title=\"NHC discussion\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>acquiring subtropical characteristics<\/strong><\/a> as it began to produce <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/12\/071229_g12_ir_winds.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 IR image + winds\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>gale-force winds<\/strong><\/a> and some convection (evident in this <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/12\/071229_modis_vis.jpg\" title=\"500-m resolution MODIS visible image\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>500-m resolution MODIS visible  image<\/strong><\/a>) within the northeastern quadrant of the disturbance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/12\/071229_g12_wv_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 6.5 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor imagery (Animated GIF)\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/12\/071229_g12_wv_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 6.5 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor imagery (Animated GIF)\" alt=\"GOES-12 6.5 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor imagery (Animated GIF)\" align=\"middle\" height=\"365\" width=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>===============================================<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/12\/071229_met8_vis.jpg\" title=\"Meteosat-8 visible image\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/12\/071229_met8_vis.jpg\" title=\"Meteosat-8 visible image\" alt=\"Meteosat-8 visible image\" align=\"middle\" height=\"482\" width=\"482\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A Meteosat-8 visible channel image <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> showed the circulation well off the coast of Africa at 12:00 UTC on 29 December.
