AWIPS images of\u00c2\u00a0 1-km resolution POES AVHRR 0.63 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel and\u00c2\u00a0 3.7 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel data <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> revealed several clusters of hot pixels <em>(yellow to red pixels)<\/em> associated with active fires on 29 May 2010, with large smoke plumes drifting southeastward.<\/p>\n<p>On the following day (30 May), a 1-km resolution MODIS 0.65 \u00c2\u00b5m visible image <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed the large smoke plumes that continued to drift to the southeast.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/05\/MODIS_VIS_20100530_1743.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"MODIS 0.65 \u00c2\u00b5m visible image\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/05\/MODIS_VIS_20100530_1743.png\" alt=\"MODIS 0.65 \u00c2\u00b5m visible image\" width=\"480\" height=\"453\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">MODIS 0.65 \u00c2\u00b5m visible image<\/p><\/div>\n<p>An animation of 4-km resolution GOES-13 3.7 \u00c2\u00b5m shotwave IR images <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed the flare-up of active fire hot spots <em>(yellow to<\/em> <em>red color enhancement)<\/em> during the daytime hours on 30 May.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/05\/100530-31_g13_ir2_anim.gif\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"GOES-13 3.9 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR images\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/05\/100530-31_g13_ir2_anim.gif\" alt=\"GOES-13 3.9 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR images\" width=\"480\" height=\"453\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-13 3.9 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR images<\/p><\/div>\n<p>GOES-13 0.63 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel images <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> depicted the very long smoke plume that had drifted across the northeastern US and out across the adjacent waters of the Atlantic Ocean on 31 May.
