Overlays of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/climo\/reports\/100518_rpts.html\">SPC storm reports<\/a><\/strong>  and cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning strikes near the time of the image showed that this severe thunderstorm was producing hail as large as 2.75 inch in diameter, as well as a couple of  tornadoes &#8212; and there were a large number of CG strikes within the Enhanced-V signature. The coldest cloud top IR brightness temperature was -74\u00c2\u00ba C.<\/p>\n<p>The corresponding 4-km resolution GOES-13 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR image <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> did exhibit an Enhanced-V signature, but the details were not as well-defined at the coarser spatial resolution. The coldest cloud top IR brightness temperatures were also about 10\u00c2\u00ba C warmer on the GOES-13 image.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/05\/Reg_IR_Sat_20100518_2245.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"GOES-13 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR image\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/05\/Reg_IR_Sat_20100518_2245.png\" title=\"GOES-13 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR image\" width=\"480\" height=\"459\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-13 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR image<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As part of the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes_r\/proving-ground.html\">GOES-R Proving Ground<\/a><\/strong> activities to support the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes_r\/proving-ground\/SPC\/SPC.html\">SPC Hazardous Weather Testbed<\/a><\/strong>, an <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/snaap\/overshootingtop\/\">Overshooting Top<\/a><\/strong> product is being generated by CIMSS.
