The <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/12\/231203_Darwin_VAAC_advisory.text\"><strong>final advisory<\/strong><\/a> issued by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/aviation\/volcanic-ash\/\"><strong>Darwin VAAC<\/strong><\/a> estimated that ash extended to 50000 ft (15.2 km).<\/p>\n<p>A radiometrically retrieved Volcanic Ash Height product from the <a href=\"https:\/\/volcano.ssec.wisc.edu\/\"><strong>NOAA\/CIMSS Volcanic Cloud Monitoring<\/strong><\/a> site <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> indicated that maximum ash heights were in the 14-16 km range.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1010px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/12\/231203_himawari9_volcanicAshHeight_Mount_Marapi_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/12\/231203_0900utc_himawari9_ashHeight.png\" width=\"1000\" height=\"821\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Volcanic Ash Height derived product [click to play animated GIF | <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/12\/231203_himawari9_volcanicAshHeight_Mount_Marapi_anim.mp4\"><strong>MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>In addition, the volcanic cloud had high levels of Ash Loading, consisting of particles having a large Ash Effective Radius <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em>.
