The storm pushed south out of the western Pacific Intertropical Convergence Zone.  By 0000 UTC on the 23rd, it began to entrain dry air into its circulation as it approached Vanuatu.  In addition to the intrusion of dry air noted above, the projected path of the storm, shown below, is towards higher latitudes where cooler SSTs and stronger wind shear is diagnosed (imagery taken from the <a href=\"https:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\">SSEC\/CIMSS Tropical Website<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/10\/PathSST_Shear_CIMSSTropical_0000UTC_24October2023c_toggle.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"840\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/10\/PathSST_Shear_CIMSSTropical_0000UTC_24October2023c_toggle.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55314\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Wind shear (200 mb-850mb) at 1200 UTC on 24 October 2023 on top of the SST analysis from ca. 0000 UTC on 24 October. The storm itself is becoming more asymmetric as well. The wind plots are shown below.
