The coldest cloud-top 10.3 \u00b5m infrared brightness temperature of the first (larger) pyroCb was around -56\u00baC (lighter shade of red), followed by a second (smaller) pyroCb exhibiting a minimum 10.3 \u00b5m brightness temperature around -47\u00baC (brighter shade of cyan). <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/10\/231022_South_America_surface_analyses_anim.gif\"><strong>Surface analyses<\/strong><\/a> indicated that a large area of low pressure was expanding northward from northern Argentina to eastern Bolivia during the day &#8212; which likely brought an influx of warmer temperatures across eastern Bolivia (potentially creating a more favorable fire environment).<\/p>\n<p>GOES-16 daytime True Color RGB and Nighttime Microphysics RGB images from the <a href=\"https:\/\/geosphere.ssec.wisc.edu\/#playing:true;coordinate:0,0;num_frames:40;\"><strong>CSPP GeoSphere<\/strong><\/a> site <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> revealed a morning smoke plume drifting south-southeastward away from the fire burn scar (it is unclear whether this was a wildfire, or an intentional fire\u00a0 meant to clear trees for agricultural purposes) a few hours prior to pyroCb formation.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/10\/goeseast_abi_radf_true_color_night_s20231022110020_e20231022220020_f67.mp4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/10\/goeseast_abi_radf_true_color_night_20231022173020.png\" width=\"1024\" height=\"461\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-16 daytime True Color RGB and Nighttime Microphysics RGB images [click to play MP4 animation]<\/p><\/div>This is likely the third confirmed case of a South American pyroCb (the first being on <a href=\"http:\/\/pyrocb.ssec.wisc.edu\/archives\/2213\"><strong>29 January 2018<\/strong><\/a>, and the second on <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/34107\"><strong>18 August 2019<\/strong><\/a>) \u2014 in addition, it\u2019s one of the very few pyroCb events documented so far in the tropics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GOES-16\u00a0(GOES-East)\u00a0\u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m), Shortwave Infrared (3.9 \u00b5m) and \u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.3 \u00b5m) images\u00a0(above) showed the formation of 2 pyrocumulonimbus (pyroCb) clouds that were created by a fire complex in northeastern Bolivia on 22 October 2023.
