The animation above shows 4 different Himawari-9 Band 13 images on 21 September, a day when Guam was experiencing intermittent rains as a feature moved northward.  When do you think the rain was heaviest?  Did you choose 1130 UTC?  That is what the microwave-derived rainrate suggests (see below).  A side-by-side comparison of the Himawari Band 13 imagery and Microwave-derived rain rate is <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/09\/H9Band13_rain_rate_20230921_1013_1132_1528_1618_guamstepanim.gif\">here<\/a>.  A meteorogram for Guam International airport is <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/09\/PGUM_ENDING_2100UTC_21SEP.gif\">here<\/a>:  Heaviest observed rains were around 1200 UTC; rains ended around 1500 UTC.  That is in agreement with the microwave diagnoses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/09\/npp_atms_rain_rate_20230921_1013_161818step.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54581\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>What was the environment around Guam?   Microwave estimates of Total Precipitable Water, below, (<a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/real-time\/mtpw2\/product.php?color_type=tpw_nrl_colors&amp;prod=wpac&amp;timespan=24hrs&amp;anim=anigf\">source<\/a>), show Guam near the northern edge of a moisture-rich band of tropical origins.
