A combination of mandatory and voluntary evacuations were issued for parts of the Singer and Merryville areas in Beauregard Parish.<\/p>\n<p>A cursor sample of GOES-16 Visible + Fire Power and Shortwave Infrared images at 2306 UTC <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> revealed that the Tiger Island Fire exhibited a maximum 3.9 \u00b5m infrared brightness temperature of 138.71\u00baC &#8212; which is the saturation temperature of the GOES-16 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/spacesegment\/abi.html\"><strong>ABI<\/strong><\/a> Band 7 detectors) at 2306 UTC \u2014 and Fire Power values exceeded <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/08\/230822_2305utc_goes16_firePower_shortwaveInfrared_cursor_sample_LA.png\"><strong>2300 MW<\/strong><\/a> at times.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1543px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/08\/230822_2306utc_goes16_shortwaveInfrared_cursor_sample_LA.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/08\/230822_2306utc_goes16_shortwaveInfrared_cursor_sample_LA.png\" width=\"1533\" height=\"766\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cursor sampling of GOES-16 &#8220;Red&#8221; Visible (0.64 \u00b5m) image with an overlay of the Fire Power derived product (top) and Shortwave Infrared (3.9 \u00b5m) image (bottom) at 2306 UTC [click to enlarge]<\/p><\/div>A toggle between NOAA-20 (mis-labelled as NPP) Day\/Night Band (0.7 \u00b5m) and Shortwave Infrared (3.74 \u00b5m) images valid at 0746 UTC on 23 August <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed the thermal signature and nighttime glow of the wildfire.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1725px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/08\/230823_0746utc_noaa20_viirs_dayNightBand_shortwaveInfrared_LA_wildfire_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/08\/230823_0746utc_noaa20_viirs_dayNightBand_shortwaveInfrared_LA_wildfire_anim.gif\" width=\"1715\" height=\"830\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">NOAA-20 Day\/Night Band (0.7 \u00b5m) and Shortwave Infrared (3.74 \u00b5m) images, valid at 0746 UTC on 23 August [click to enlarge]<\/p><\/div>GOES-14 was temporarily brought out of storage for its annual instrument testing and evaluation &#8212; which allowed a &#8220;old vs. new&#8221; comparison of this wildfire, using 15-minute GOES-14 and 1-minute GOES-16 Shortwave Infrared images <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em>.
