AOD values were quite high, reaching the 2.0-3.0 range in the most dense portions of the smoke pall.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1725px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/07\/230715_goes16_visible_aerosolOpticalDepth_North_Central_US_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" backscatter (<a href=\"http:\/\/hsrl.ssec.wisc.edu\/by_site\/6\/2023\/07\/15\/pm\/#bscat_depol\"><strong>source<\/strong><\/a>) at Madison, Wisconsin <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed that dense smoke extended to altitudes around 4.0-4.5 km (13,000-15,000 feet) during much of the day.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1266px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a
